ABOUT THE TAUPO CAR CLUB

About Taupo Car Club

The Taupo Car Club is based at Taupo International Motorsport Park. We utilise four track configurations within the 3.32km circuit.

Taupo Car Club was formed in 1959 and the first circuit was a dirt track at the southern end of the new circuit. This was sealed to become a 1.6km track that Taupo Car Club used for many years for numerous National Race Meetings and Clubsport events.

In the early days Taupo Car Club was also involved in Rallying and hosted many rounds of the Central Region Rally Championship. Our Gymkhanas, Grass Sprints, Bent Sprints and Dual Sprints helped launch the racing careers of many competitors.

The redevelopment and circuit extension at the northern end began in 2005 to extend the circuit to become at it's longest a 3.32km FIA Grade 2 Circuit. Taupo Car Club hosted their first event on this new circuit in January of 2007 in preparation for the inaugural A1GP event held later in January 2007.

Taupo Car Club primarily runs circuit events ranging from our very successful Winter Series of Dual Sprints and Clubmans which we have held consecutively since 1999, moving from the old 1.6km circuit to the Track 2 2.2km circuit.

We have held many forms of Motorsport National Race Meetings, Endurance Race Meetings, Clubmans events. Our 2 day events held March and November are now held in collaboration with the IRC (Independent Race Classes). We also provide Service, Equipment and Personnel to hold an annual round of the MotorSport New Zealand Company's National Championship.

From Mini’s to A1GP the Taupo Car Club can treat you to a great spectator event but if you want to be closer to the action and help make it all happen as a helper / volunteer we may have a position for you.
We always welcome new members and we look forward to you joining us.
